With the holidays fast approaching, now is a good time to remind residents that package thefts will be on the rise. During the holidays there is a significant increase in package deliveries to the area. Thieves will flock to large residential areas to maximize their potential for targets. While it is best to get your packages delivered to secure offsite locations, we know that is not the most feasible. If you do choose to have packages delivered to your home, please try the following:
Schedule deliveries to arrive when someone will be present at the residence.
Schedule packages to arrive on the same day.
Use “delivery instructions” to indicate safer locations within the property for the packages to be placed.
Some delivery services offer “in your home” deliveries where you allow access to your garage or front door where the delivery agent will place the items inside of your home.
At the end of the day, if you are a victim of package theft, please reach out to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office 512-864-8282 to make a report. Please have items description, value, and any identifying information for the missing package. If you have any video of the theft, please provide that as well. Also reach out to the delivery provider and/or shipper to make a report with them. DO NOT TRY TO APPREHEND A THEFT SUSPECT. Don’t place yourself in any risk for mere property!
Happy and Safe Holidays,
Sergeant Mark Huntley Patrol Division – A Shift Williamson County Sheriff’s Office 508 Rock Street Georgetown, TX 78626 512-943-1300
